True Sioux Hope Foundation Hosts Family To Family Cultural Connectivity Event On Pine Ridge Reservation
PINE RIDGE RESERVATION, S.D., June 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- July 7, True Sioux Hope Foundation will host an innovative convening between Oglala Lakota Sioux Tribe members and well-known family philanthropists to build bridges and advance progress in one of the most disadvantaged communities in the world.
Alan and Twila True, founders of True Sioux Hope Foundation, have assembled action-oriented philanthropists and companies to visit Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota to provide critical aid and conduct community service activities while learning more about issues facing Native Americans. Pine Ridge, home to 35,000 members of the Oglala Lakota Sioux Tribe, is the poorest place in the United States. With unemployment rates at 90 percent, infant mortality close to 20 percent and an average life expectancy of 47 years for men and 52 years for women, its people face some of the biggest challenges of our time.
The event hopes to galvanize investment in a community that has been overlooked for too long. Philanthropists, representatives from the private sector, celebrities and other influential organizations are connecting to participate in the three-day gathering. The event includes members of True Sioux Hope Foundation, 100 family philanthropists (including members from the Family to Family coalition) and the Global Family Guild, (including founding partner Swati Mandela). Joining in support are celebrities Julia Ormond, Frances Fisher, Tonantzin Carmelo, Kimberly Van Der Beek, Zahira, and other proud partners of True Sioux Hope Foundation including Deseret Industries, Arizona State University, Leesa Sleep, and Thrive Market.
"As a Native American and a proud member of the Oglala Lakota Sioux Tribe, it's my greatest honor to be able to create a path toward Nation Building for my tribe," said Twila True Founder and CEO of True Family Enterprises. "Life for me started in Pine Ridge, and I am grateful for those working to help my tribe acknowledge and release the pain of the past and create a brighter future. True Love is Charity in Action."
