CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Girls on the Run, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering girls to become confident and strong through running and a 10-week curriculum focused on building self-confidence, announced today that True Citrus has become one of its Foundation partners. As part of the partnership, True Citrus will provide its True Lemon® and True Lime® 10-calorie beverage mixes, which are made with only simple and clean ingredients, to Girls on the Run participants across the country.
"Staying hydrated is really important to our girls so it's great that we can now provide flavor options for their water," said Theresa Miller, chief engagement officer for Girls on the Run. "We love the fact that True Lemon and True Lime products taste delicious without chemicals or artificial sweeteners or flavors. This partnership will further the mission of our organization and make an impact on the hundreds of thousands of girls we'll serve throughout this next year."
In a recent survey of over 800 True Citrus customers, 90 percent of respondents said that True Citrus products have encouraged them to increase their water intake. True Citrus products have no artificial sweeteners, flavors, preservatives, sodium or gluten and are non-GMO. A patented recipe crystallizes lemon and lime juices and oils together, locking fresh-squeezed citrus taste into its 10-calorie beverage mix line of True Lemon lemonades, True Lime limeades and unsweetened citrus replacement sachets that encourage people to love their water their way.
"Our partnership with Girls on the Run is a natural extension of our partnership with our customers to help them live their best lives by staying hydrated deliciously," said Heidi Carney, executive vice president of marketing/customer relations. "Being hydrated and active is so important for feeling happy, healthy and strong. Girls on the Run does an amazing job of helping young girls make that mind-body connection, and we're honored to help in any way we can."
A recent external study of the Girls on the Run program showed that 97 percent of third through fifth grade participants learned critical life skills through their participation in the 10-week program, and use these skills to better resolve conflict, manage emotions and help others. Girls who need the program the most experience the greatest benefit: Those who began the program with below-average scores significantly improved from pre- to post-season on all outcomes—competence, confidence, connection, character and caring. And girls who were the least active before Girls on the Run increased their physical activity level by 40 percent from pre- to post-season and maintained this increased level beyond the program's end.
True Citrus joins a list of companies known not only for their business excellence but also their commitment to their communities, including Target, Cigna, Procter & Gamble, Justice, Asics and American Express.
