NEW ORLEANS, March 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- A leader in the UV disinfection industry, Tru-D SmartUVC will exhibit its patented Sensor360 technology at the Association for Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Surgical Conference and Expo 2018 in New Orleans, Louisiana, March 24-28, 2018 at booth #639. The industry standard in advocating for excellence in perioperative practice and health care, AORN provides perioperative nurses with education and resources for safe clinical practice and professional development.
"As important as handwashing, manual cleaning and antibiotic stewardship are to your infection prevention protocols in the OR, so is incorporating enhanced terminal room disinfection," said Alice Brewer, Director of Clinical Affairs for Tru-D SmartUVC. "Tru-D has been validated by multiple studies to provide a cleaner and safer operating environment using chemical-free and environmentally-friendly UVC energy."
A recent study published in the American Journal of Infection Control, Ultraviolet-C light as a means of disinfecting anesthesia workstations, demonstrated Tru-D's ability to reduce bioburden on anesthesia workstations. In the study, UVC disinfection greatly influenced bioburden reduction on high-touch, complex medical equipment surfaces contaminated with three (3) organisms commonly implicated in surgical infections. The study was conducted at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) to assess organism killing on complex medical devices in difficult-to-access, high-touch areas that included dials, knobs and handles that are challenging to clean manually. All trials, compared with the controls, exhibited significant bioburden reduction. The research team went on to suggest that Tru-D's technology is an important supplement to the manual cleaning process.
"This study further validates the body of literature supporting Tru-D," said Brewer. "The research team concluded there was thorough disinfection of all surfaces both in direct and shadowed areas on anesthesia devices from a single Tru-D placement in the operating room. Tru-D was proven effective both in small and large operating rooms. It is exciting to once again have our disinfection claims validated by an esteemed research team at a prestigious academic medical center."
The pioneer of UVC disinfection, Tru-D operates from one placement within the room, ensuring significant pathogen reduction in direct and shadowed areas and eliminating the threat of human error in the disinfection process. Validated by the first-ever randomized clinical trial on UV disinfection, the Benefits of Enhanced Terminal Room-Disinfection (BETR-D) study, results proved that enhanced terminal room disinfection strategies that utilized Tru-D reduced the risk of acquisition and infection of four major MDROs by a cumulative 30 percent among patients who entered the same room.
