Corporate Compliance Head Appointed to International Code of Conduct Association Board
RESTON, Va., Sept. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Triple Canopy, Inc., a global provider of mission support, security and training services, announced today that Mark DeWitt, vice president and deputy general counsel, was appointed to the board of directors of the newly formed International Code of Conduct Association (ICoCA).
The ICoCA is a multi-stakeholder association of governments, private security providers and nongovernmental organizations tasked with overseeing compliance with the International Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers (ICoC). The purpose of the ICoCA is to promote the responsible provision of security services and respect for human rights as well as national and international law. As of its formation on Sept. 20, 2013, the ICoCA will have 135 industry members from around the world.
"Since our inception in 2003, Triple Canopy has advocated for standards across the private security industry," said Ignacio Balderas, Triple Canopy CEO. "The launch of the ICoCA is the culmination of years of hard work and underscores Triple Canopy's commitment to conducting all operations in a legal, ethical and moral manner. I am very pleased that Mark DeWitt will serve on the ICoCA Board of Directors."
DeWitt leads Triple Canopy's quality and compliance initiatives, and worked for nearly three years as a member of the ICoC Temporary Steering Committee, the body charged with the development and creation of the ICoCA. As a member of the ICoCA Board of Directors, he will help oversee the operation of the association along with the establishment and implementation of its core functions.
"I look forward to continuing Triple Canopy's leadership role in this initiative and to working side-by-side with senior government leaders, human rights champions and colleagues from the private security industry," stated DeWitt. "The association would not have been established without the commitment of key governments, to include the United States, as well as members of civil society. I would particularly like to recognize Human Rights First and Human Rights Watch for helping make the ICoCA a reality," DeWitt added.
