TripIt Research Reveals Travel Apps Still New Technology to Most Travelers
Travelers surveyed planning more vacations in 2014, with increases in leisure travel - especially to warm destinations - expected to outpace increases in business travel this year
SAN FRANCISCO, March 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Research from TripIt, the travel organizing app from Concur (Nasdaq: CNQR), finds that while travelers will take more trips this year – especially to warm destinations – most travelers are still relying on old organizational methods, even when technology tools offer an easier way to manage travel details.
Take-Off with Tech: Most People Still Printing Paper Confirmations When Traveling
When embarking on these trips, only 35 percent (barely one-third) of travelers polled said they use an app to access and organize their booking confirmations and contact information while traveling. Tied in the majority slot, each with 71 percent of the vote*, were the old-school methods of "printing confirmations" and "searching through email on a smartphone."
While more than 9 million travelers currently bring TripIt on their journeys, this study shows many people still use outdated, cumbersome organization methods when they travel. Using TripIt enables travelers to experience automagical creation of a master trip itinerary, providing instant access to all travel plans in one place, even if offline or off the grid.
To get started using TripIt's travel-organizing app to access all plans in one place, simply forward any booking confirmation email to [email protected]. TripIt automagically creates an itinerary, putting all vital numbers and addresses just one tap away on any mobile device.
Work Hard, Play Harder: Travelers Emphasizing Vacations Over Business Travel in 2014
While a majority of both vacationers (63%) and road warriors (56%) anticipate traveling more in 2014, projected growth in the leisure sector outpaces the increase in business trips by 7%.

Warm is the Word: Top Destinations for 2014 Predominantly Sunny
With multiple polar vortexes and snowstorm events plaguing most of the country this winter, it's not surprising that many travelers are inclined to choose warm destinations for their "most anticipated 2014 trip." When asked to write-in their top destination for a major trip this year, New York (ranked 3rd) was the only destination named that experiences a cold winter; the sun of Florida, California and Hawaii beckoned nearly one quarter (23.2%) of all respondents:
