Trimble Joins buildingSMART Alliance to Support Industry-Wide BIM Standards Initiatives
Alliance Develops New BIM Standards and Policies for the Building Construction Industry
SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) announced today that it has joined the buildingSMART alliance™ to help develop industry standards to streamline the collection and use of construction data in support of Building Information Modeling (BIM). Trimble will join a small group of owners, designers, contractors, educators, and solution providers as part of the alliance.
The buildingSMART alliance is a council of the National Institute of Building Sciences, which serves as a liaison between the public and private sectors, working with government, building industry and manufacturing stakeholders to advance building science and technology. The buildingSMART alliance develops the National BIM Standard as well as initiatives that provide a more efficient flow of construction data from concept to completion and facilities management.
Joining the buildingSMART alliance is a logical next step for Trimble after recently spearheading the BIM to Field alliance, an organization of solution providers with the charter of educating the building construction industry on the effective use of extending BIM data to the field. "The next several years are pivotal in the future of the building construction industry," explains Pat Bohle, general manager of Trimble's Building Construction Division. "With the adoption of BIM growing every year, we believe the industry needs standards to help ensure that these new technologies have the opportunity to leverage a common thread that can be utilized across the industry at every level."
Trimble has been accepted as a National Building Information Modeling standards (U.S.) project committee member with the opportunity to help establish industry standards and processes for BIM workflows.
