Trimble Introduces ThingMagic Astra-EX UHF RFID Reader
Integrated Reader/Antenna Delivers New Standards in Performance, Ease-of-Use and Cost of Ownership
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) introduced today the ThingMagic® Astra®-EX, an addition to its integrated UHF RFID reader/antenna product family. Driven by ThingMagic's high-performance Mercury6e (M6e) module and designed for enterprise and commercial applications, Astra-EX is easy to install and integrate with corporate IT infrastructures and blends well with enterprise lay-outs. Astra-EX builds on the capabilities of the widely deployed first generation Astra reader and includes several new high-performance and application-specific features.

- EPCglobal Gen2 (optional ISO 18000-6B) support with anti-collision Dense Reader Mode (DRM) and advanced anti-jamming functionality
- A fully integrated 8.5 dBic circularly-polarized antenna and an RP TNC connector to support an optional secondary external antenna
- Separate read and write levels, adjustable from 5 dBm to 30 dBm on the integrated antenna and up to 31.5 dBm on the external antenna port
- Power over Ethernet (PoE) 802.3af and external DC power options
- A fully integrated Wi-Fi option for data backhaul across existing enterprise Wi-Fi networks
- 32MB of flash and 64MB of DRAM available for reader-hosted applications
- LLRP v1.0.1 with multiprotocol extensions

- A 'fast search' mode for reading tags affixed to fast-moving objects
