Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF Celebrates 65 Years by Teaming up with The Peanuts Movie
Charlie Brown, Snoopy and The Peanuts Movie gang encourage American kids to get involved and help save other kids around the world
NEW YORK, July 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This year, the iconic Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign will celebrate its 65th anniversary by joining forces with another American favorite, Peanuts, which is also turning 65 this year. The entire Peanuts crew will be heading to the big screen this November with the release of The Peanuts Movie, in theaters November 6. Peanuts and Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF will encourage children to raise funds for UNICEF's lifesaving programs. Since 1950, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has raised more than $175 million for UNICEF to provide children around the world with medicine, nutrition, clean water, emergency relief and education.
"We are thrilled that the beloved Peanuts characters will be joining us to Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF and to inspire a new generation of kids in the U.S. to help other kids around the world," said Caryl M. Stern, President and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. "We had the honor of working with Linus in 1952, and this year, we are overjoyed that he's enlisted Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of The Peanuts Movie characters to join him in support of UNICEF and the work they do to put children first."
"We are excited to celebrate the release of The Peanuts Movie by partnering Charles Schulz's iconic characters with the iconic Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF program," said Zachary Eller, Senior Vice President, Marketing Partnerships, 20th Century Fox. "We know Charlie Brown and the gang will do their best to help raise funds for this most worthy cause!"
In addition to children going door-to-door on Halloween to raise funds for UNICEF, teachers of grade K-12 students can participate in the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF School Challenge throughout the fall. The School Challenge will engage educators and schools through an essay contest focused on encouraging global citizenship in the classroom and community. The top 15 essay competition entrants will receive $500 worth of Scholastic books. Entries must be submitted at www.trickortreatforunicef.org by Dec. 1, 2015 to be considered.
The U.S. Fund for UNICEF has also developed a series of lesson plans to help teachers empower students with the knowledge that they can save lives, and motivate them to become global citizens. The resources, which include readings, photos, videos, music, maps, and games, introduce students to UNICEF's work, child rights, and a variety of issues affecting the health and well-being of children around the world.
