Treasurer of the United States to Participate in Launch Ceremony for Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine Quarter
WASHINGTON, Aug. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Treasurer of the United States Rosie Rios will represent the United States Mint at the launch ceremony for the new America the Beautiful Quarters® Program coin honoring Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine in Baltimore. Invited guests include U. S. Senator Ben Cardin; U. S. congressional representatives Elijah Cummings, C.A. "Dutch" Ruppersberger and John Sarbanes; and Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. The ceremony will take place at the historic landmark on September 13, at 10 a.m. Eastern Time (ET), opening day of Star-Spangled Banner Weekend. After the ceremony, members of the public can exchange their cash for $10 rolls of Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine quarters at face value.

The Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine quarter is the 19th coin of the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program, a 12-year initiative to honor 56 national parks and other national sites authorized by Public Law Public Law 110-456. Each year, the public will see five new national sites depicted on the reverse (tails side) of the America the Beautiful Quarters. The United States Mint is issuing these quarters in the order in which the honored site was first established as a national site.
