CHENGDU, China, Nov 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- "Travelling along Southern Silk Road . Visiting the Homeland of Pandas- European Panda Fans traveling to Sichuan" campaign hosted by the Tourism Administration of Sichuan Province launched at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding on November 18, 2014. It is the first large-scale transnational tourism marketing campaign combining the two tourism elements of the giant panda and the Southern Silk Road. Sichuan is not only the homeland of giant pandas, but also the starting point of the Southern Silk Road which is one of the ancient international trade channels, starting from Chengdu in Sichuan, stretching across Sichuan and Yunnan provinces in China, connecting Myanmar and India and leading to Southeast Asia, West Asia and Europe.
The recruitment of panda fans in Europe will start on December 15, 2014, lasting to January 31, 2015. Two panda fans will be selected respectively from UK, France, Spain, Belgium, Germany and Austria where the giant pandas reside. A 40-person self-driving team will be organized, consisting of the selected panda fans, experts and cultural celebrities working in the fields related to the pandas and Southern Silk Road, and well-known media professionals. The team will depart from Europe in April 2015. The tour will take two months, traveling about 20,000 km through UK, Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Myanmar to the destination of Sichuan to experience its tourism charm. This campaign also includes several promotional events aiming to provocate a panda tour boom in Europe and the world as well, namely, panda fans mass election in 6 European countries, departure ceremony for the self-driving team, the reality show of the panda tour, 13 promotion events of Sichuan Tourism in the countries along the trip and 6 cultural exchange activities at the panda museums in European countries.
