Travel Insurance Policies Won't Always Cover the Events in Israel, Squaremouth Explains What Will
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., July 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Escalating violence in Israel has many travelers turning to travel insurance to learn their options. Squaremouth, America's fastest growing travel insurance comparison site, explains that while travel insurance policies may not cover the events in Israel, there is a solution for travelers.
In order for the events in Israel to be covered by travel insurance, they must fall under one of the policy's covered reasons. Most travel insurance policies include coverage for terrorism, however the events in Israel haven't met the requirements to trigger this benefit.
"This is an ongoing conflict not a terrorist incident," explains Jen Crist, VP of Claims at TripMate. Other providers, like iTravelInsured, consider the violence an act of war, rather than terrorism. Acts of war are universally excluded under travel insurance policies.
"If a traveler is looking for coverage for the current situation in Israel, the terrorism benefit won't be sufficient," advises Squaremouth product manager, Joshua Walker. "The best option for travelers is to purchase a policy with cancel for any reason coverage."
To be eligible for the cancel for any reason benefit, a traveler must purchase a policy within 21 days of their first trip deposit. Doing so allows them to cancel their trip for any reason and receive up to 75% of their trip cost back. While this benefit typically increases the price of the insurance, it is the only option for travelers who want coverage for the events in Israel.
As the situation in Israel unfolds, Squaremouth will continue to update their website with official travel insurance provider position statements. Travelers can also refer to the US Department of State's website for up-to-date notifications regarding travel to Israel.
