Travel Advantage Network Employees Provide Aid to Haiti
Maryland-based company raises funds for Practical Compassion, Inc.
MILLERSVILLE, Md., Sept. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Travel Advantage Network, a vacation program, spent the month of July raising funds for Practical Compassion, Inc. a not-for-profit humanitarian organization. Every month, employees of Travel Advantage Network focus their fundraising efforts on a charity. For three consecutive years, the company has raised donations for Practical Compassion, Inc. thanks to the efforts of Deborah Keller. Keller decided to focus on the humanitarian organization for the month of July because, "there is so much that the people of Haiti still need."
Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world with over half the population suffering from chronic malnutrition, little access to clean water and an estimated one doctor for every 10,000 people. Practical Compassion, Inc. runs entirely on volunteer help, with more than 90% of their total budget going directly to the needs in Haiti. The organization provides food, education, housing, medical care and jobs.
"We want to do as much as we can to help," Keller said. "It's amazing to think that the things we take for granted everyday are the very things these people so desperately need."
To engage employees, Keller came up with a variety of events throughout the month which included; a 50/50 raffle, a bake sale, pay-to-wear-jeans to work day and a silent auction. Over the past three years, employees of Travel Advantage Network have raised over $3,000 for Practical Compassion, Inc.
Travel Advantage Network has been dedicated to charitable giving since its inception and in 2011 the company raised more than $12,000 for various local and national charities.
