TransMedia Group Retained To Set Sail On A Course To Build Full-Scale Replica Of USS Hornet In West Palm Beach
BOCA RATON, Fla., Oct. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- TransMedia Group said it will put publicity winds behind the sails of the mission to build a full-scale replica of the historic sailing ship Hornet that played a major role in the creation of Florida.
A Resolution was signed on May 13, 2014 by the Governor and his Cabinet recognizing the USS Hornet of 1805 as the Official Sailing Ambassador Extraordinaire of Goodwill, Trade, and Education for the State of Florida, and encourage support for the Palm Beach Maritime Foundation. The 450-ton full-rigged sailing vessel will be built in West Palm Beach as a public demonstration of historic wooden ship building.
The PR firm (www.transmediagroup.com) said it was retained by the Palm Beach Maritime Foundation to conduct a publicity and funding campaign for building the replica of the legendary sailing ship of the American Navy, which played a heroic role during the War of 1812 and in suppressing piracy in Florida waters.
"Our publicity will show how this replica will visit Peanut Island and will create hundreds of jobs in Palm Beach County, many filled by U.S. Navy veterans, and will become a major tourist destination in many ports around the state." said TransMedia CEO Tom Madden.
Palm Beach Maritime Foundation, a 501-c3 non-profit organization, will construct and operate the USS Hornet as an educational experience for Florida students in partnership with the Naval Heritage Society. Former naval officer William King is Executive Director of USS Hornet Project and spent years researching and developing the program. The ship will be a certified sailing school vessel.
Businessman and Naval Academy graduate John Grant is founder of the Palm Beach Maritime Museum & Academy and now heads the Palm Beach Maritime Foundation. The Foundation will be expanding their experiential maritime curriculum to additional schools around Florida. As part of that curriculum, the full-rigged school ship USS Hornet will keep student and faculties inspired and eager to learn with hands-on experience on the needs for our nation's maritime future.
Madden said a kick-off ceremony and "ship rope cutting" is being planned for November 4, 2014.
