TransMedia Announces Twin Actors Alex and Nathan Burkart Signed to Play "Evil Twins"
In Upcoming 'Prescription For Death' Film About Notoriously Deadly Florida Pill Mills
LOS ANGELES, March 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- TransMedia Group (www.transmediagroup.com) said "Prescription For Death" producers have signed the perfect actors to play the "evil twins" who ran the largest, deadliest pill mills in Florida. The actors are twins themselves, Alex and Nathan Burkart.
Signing the Burkart twins culminates months of casting for the starring roles in the film depicting the identical-twins, Christopher and Jeffrey George, serving prison sentences for their crimes, said TransMedia CEO Tom Madden, a former programming VP at NBC and head of PR Planning at ABC.
The George twins ran pill mill operations that drew thousands of addicts to South Florida from as far north as Ohio and west from Texas, while netting them millions of dollars in a deadly scheme that "preyed upon the weakest, most vulnerable in our society," according to Eric Paskin, founder of Potential Behavioral Health Advisors, an advisor to the film. Paskin's case management and treatment placement company offers services to addicts and their often dysfunctional families. (www.potentialllc.com)
Madden said the Burkart twins are extraordinarily talented, trained SAG actors who've worked on projects together, including the movie 'Jack and Jill' produced by Adam Sandler. Both worked professionally at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, and theatres across the country. Both were personally selected by three-time Pulitzer prize winning playwright, Edward Albee, to read his play at Playwrights Horizons in NYC. Nathan lives in LA; Alex is getting his MFA at VCU in Richmond, VA.
Madden said registered nurse Janet Colbert, founder of non-profit STOPPNOW (stop organized pill pushers now) www.stoppnow.com) also will serve as technical advisor to the film. As a neonatal nurse, Colbert saw firsthand the pill mill crisis unfolding when it became obvious from the drug addicted babies they were seeing.
"This is a brutally frank, monstrously true story of how the twins built a pill mill empire operating out of ostensibly legitimate pain management clinics until the eagles of justice swooped down," said Madden.
Scenes include extortion, kidnapping attempts, undercover surveillance, money laundering, dramatic arrests and courtroom drama.
Madden said producers have material no one else has, including Warner Bros, which reportedly is developing a similar film. The material consists of 12,000 hours of transcript wire taps, hours of audio interviews and childhood photos of the twins.
