Transition Team Announced As Stevens Begins Presidential Search
Provost George P. Korfiatis to serve as interim president Beginning June 30
HOBOKEN, N.J., March 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As Stevens Institute of Technology prepares to search for a new university president, the university recently announced a plan to ensure a smooth transition after its current President steps down.
Dr. Harold J. Raveche, Stevens' President for the past 22 years, will leave that post on June 30, 2010. A comprehensive search has begun to find the person who will become the 7th president of the 140-year-old university. However, because a search of this type can take several months, the Stevens Board of Trustees wants to ensure that the Institute will continue without losing momentum.
George P. Korfiatis, the current Provost and University Vice President, will be installed as Interim President, after Raveche steps down. Korfiatis will not be a candidate for the new presidential search.
Reporting to the Interim President, under the transition plan, will be the academic deans, Dr. Dinesh Verma, Dr. Lisa Dolling, and Dr. Michael S. Bruno; Maureen Weatherall '78, the Vice President for University Enrollment and Administration; and Randy Green, the CFO and VP of Finance. These individuals will constitute the Executive Council of the Institute.
Korfiatis will retain many responsibilities of the Provost during the transition including oversight of all faculty hiring; presiding over faculty meetings; oversight of the Research Enterprise and the National Research Centers and other major strategic initiatives.
"It is important that a plan for interim leadership be established now to provide continuity and a seamless transition to the 7th president without rushing the search and selection process," said Korfiatis. "This is an affirmation that the Stevens community stands united and focused on a uniform message during the search."
Under Korfiatis and the transition team, the Institute will continue its ascent among the preeminent technological research universities.
Stevens has retained Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates to lead the presidential search. They will begin work immediately to make candidate recommendations to the university selection committee. Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates is a minority and female owned retained executive search firm specializing in providing executive recruitment services to colleges, universities, independent schools and not-for-profit organizations.
Raveche, who joined the Stevens Institute of Technology in 1988, leaves an impressive record that will continue to have a positive impact on Stevens for years to come.
In keeping with the Institute's momentum, growth and progress, the interim leadership will work to maintain confidence in the continued ascent of the Institute with internal and external constituencies. They will focus on outreach and fundraising and will implement a new Board of Trustees governance model with increased faculty and staff participation.
