LEIDEN, The Netherlands, August 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
The amount of DNSSEC-secured .com- and .net domain names has doubled overnight, as Dutch domain provider TransIP signs almost all of its clients' .com, .net, .nl, .eu and .be domain names.
DNSSEC (DNS Security Extension) is an addition to the existing DNS-protocol and protects domain name owners and internet users against the many exploits of the DNS-protocol.
In the past few days, the amount of secured .com and .net domain names has gone from roughly 19,000 to over 37,000, a number that is sure to grow even more.
TransIP founder Ali Niknam commented: "The DNSSEC roll-out for such a large number of domain names posed many challenges. We had to equip a significant amount of additional hardware in order to serve all extra DNS-information. During the project we also encountered some serious bugs in the DNSSEC related software."
"We aim to secure all of our clients' 400.000 domain names in the near future," Niknam continued. "With currently over 200.000 domain names already signed, containing roughly 10 percent .net and .com domain names, TransIP has already become the world leader in secured domain names."
About TransIP:
With more than 90.000 customers and 700.000+ registered domain names, TransIP is the largest domain name provider in the Benelux and the first to offer DNSSEC without charge to clients worldwide).
