Experts from government and industry will share ways that federal agencies can effectively meet the mandates of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget's (OMB) Data Center Consolidation Initiative. The initiative calls for a dramatic reduction in the number of IT centers across government, with the goal of attaining considerable savings in space and power consumption.
Featured speakers at this complimentary, half-day seminar are:
- Michael Duffy, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Information Systems and Chief Information Officer, Department of The Treasury, addressing, "Meeting the Consolidation Mandate: A Federal Case Study";
- Harry J. Foxwell, Ph.D., Principal Consultant, Oracle Corporation, exploring "Essential Virtualization Technologies for Successful Data Center Consolidation";
- Prem Jadhwani, Senior Solutions Architect, GTSI, discussing how to "Design a Practical Consolidation Roadmap: From Assessment to Implementation"; and
- Stephen Elliot, Vice President of Strategy, Virtualization and Service Automation, CA, Inc., speaking on "Using Automated Tools to Manage the Future Data Center".
In addition, Bryan Klopack, Director of Research, Government Business Council (GBC), will present findings from GBC's new in-depth study on how federal managers view virtualization. This study addressed the inherent challenges, obstacles, and resources needed to implement and manage virtualized environments within agencies. As an added bonus, attendees will receive a free copy of the study.
Moderating the seminar will be Sandra B. Gillespie, GTSI Senior Vice President.
"With the number of federal data centers ballooning to more than 1,000 according to OMB statistics, we are presenting this seminar to offer timely, practical guidance to help agencies reduce the size and cost of their data centers in compliance with the OMB directive," said Ms. Gillespie. "We have seen that through technologies such as virtualization and cloud computing, agencies have had success in managing their centers more productively and cost effectively. This seminar will help attendees start their own roadmaps to data center consolidation."
Presented by GTSI and Federal Computer Week, the seminar already has attracted close to 200 attendees. Further seminar sponsors include Oracle, CA, Citrix, and GBC.
