Traffic Safety Coalition Announces Ohio Coalition Partners
Education Campaign Focused on Encouraging Safe Driving in the State of Ohio
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The Traffic Safety Coalition today announced new safety partners as part of its statewide campaign in Ohio to increase safety at traffic intersections and reduce chronic speeding in local communities. As the coalition continues to spread its message of traffic safety, law enforcement, safety advocates, and concerned citizens are joining the effort to reduce traffic-related crashes, prevent serious injury, and save more lives.
In 2008, 233 people were killed in Ohio and more than 11,000 were injured because of red light violations and speeding incidents. The Traffic Safety Coalition is working with its partners to inform drivers that it is imperative to obey the rules of the road to keep Ohio roads safe.
The effort in Ohio will be led by Paul and Sue Oberhauser, the Traffic Safety Coalition's honorary state co-chairs. The couple's daughter, Sarah, was killed when a man crashed into her car after disregarding a red light. Since Sarah's death, Sue and Paul have been advocates for increased traffic safety at the state and local level.
"I am thrilled to join the Traffic Safety Coalition in this effort," Paul said. "Together, we can work to educate drivers and make our roads safer for everyone."
The Traffic Safety Coalition is proud to work with Paul and Sue Oberhauser and our partners listed below:
- Paul and Sue Oberhauser (State co-chairs)
- National Safety Council
- Red Means Stop
- Safe Kids Central Ohio
- The City of Dayton
- The City of Garfield Heights
- Franklin County Safe Kids
As communities across the State of Ohio celebrate National Stop on Red Week, the Traffic Safety Coalition and its partners are reminding Ohio drivers to obey traffic signals and posted speed limits. By following these laws, we can work together to make our roads safer for everyone – both inside and outside the car.
The Traffic Safety Coalition is a grassroots organization comprised of public safety professionals, law enforcement officials, victims' advocates, health care professionals, academics, and industry leaders who are united in support of sensible policies that protect motorists and pedestrians on our nation's roads. The Coalition recently launched two public awareness campaigns in Ohio to promote safer roads: "Slow Down Ohio" which targets speed and "Respect Red Ohio" which focuses on intersection safety.
