AUSTIN, Texas, June 19, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Texas Public Policy Foundation today released Fossil Fuels: The Moral Case. This paper, authored by TPPF's Distinguished Senior Fellow and Director of the Armstrong Center for Energy and the Environment Kathleen Hartnett White, makes the case that fossil fuels have vastly improved living conditions across the world and released entire populations from abject poverty. On the basis of extensive research and data, she concludes that current policies to replace fossil fuels with inferior energy sources will hurt the poor and risk undermining the well-springs of mankind's greatest advance.
"Energy dense, power dense, abundant, affordable, versatile, reliable, portable, scaleable, and storeable: fossil fuels have far more advantages than current alternatives," said White. "Far more robust empirical science on the natural variables of climate is needed before governments force an abrupt shift from fossil fuels to inferior renewable energy sources. Nations who rushed to renewables over the last decade, such as Germany, already speak of growing energy poverty where families view electricity as a luxury good."
A rare conservative regulator, Kathleen Hartnett White, Distinguished Senior Fellow and Director of the Armstrong Center for Energy and the Environment served a six-year term as Chairman and Commissioner of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). She recently completed her fifth gubernatorial appointment as an officer of the Lower Colorado River Authority, one of the country's largest public power and water utilities.
Ms. White will present her paper in a Heritage Foundation Lecture at the Lehrman Auditorium in Washington, D.C., at 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. today and is available for media appointments Thursday and Friday, June 19-20.
