Toyota of Naperville Welcomes the City of Naperville's First EV Charging Station

NAPERVILLE, Ill., Oct. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Earlier this week a few staff members joined the City of Naperville and officials from the city to welcome the first public EV charging station in downtown Naperville. The charging station is located in the downtown Van Buren Street parking lot and is a Level 2 charger that will allow drivers to partially recharge their vehicles while they are shopping or dining out downtown. Toyota of Naperville is extremely happy that this charger has been added to the great city of Naperville and it is a testament to how progressive and environmentally savvy the city is.

Downtown business owners are pleased about the opportunity to have electric cars charging, while the drivers shop or dine out at their stores. The opportunity for cities to receive a charging station like this do not come around often and Naperville is lucky to be counted among these cities. There could be more charging stations to follow and City Manager Doug Krieger said the first station is a "pilot project to monitor the unit's popularity and usage."

If the charging station is as popular as the dealership and many around the city think it will be, they could add as many as 10 more. A partnership with the San Francisco-based ECOtality's EV Project provided the free station and a portion of the $7,000 installation costs. The total project is a $230 million project funded by grants across the U.S. from the Department of Energy and electric car manufacturers.

Toyota of Naperville wants to encourage drivers to go out and use these electric charging stations.
