Town Hall Discusses Challenges MD Families Face in Receiving Needed Home Care Nursing Services

What:

Maryland families, elected officials, and healthcare professionals will discuss the growing crisis stemming from the lack of access to home care nursing services for children and adults living with disabilities. Many children and adults with disabilities have received doctors' prescriptions and insurance authorizations for in-home nursing care, but can't get reliable care. This town hall will explore the challenges families face when care is not available, and how the State of Maryland can help ease the crisis. One concern is that Maryland's low Medicaid reimbursement rates, especially in comparison with neighboring states, make it difficult for health care providers to recruit and retain enough quality nurses to serve the families relying on this care. A state-appointed task force is studying the issues and holding its next meeting September 26 in Baltimore.
