Tourism Industry Applauds House Action on Pure Michigan Funding Legislation
But Legislature must act before spring recess or opportunity to promote summer tourism season will be lost.
LANSING, Mich. March 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Michigan Lodging and Tourism Association (MLTA) applauded today's House action on legislation that would provide short term funding for the Pure Michigan campaign. The legislation helps advance full funding for this year's Pure Michigan campaign allowing for both national cable TV and aggressive regional campaigns.
"Combined with recent Senate action, today's House vote moves the ball further down field and we appreciate the leadership both chambers have shown," said Steve Yencich, President/CEO. "But the clock is ticking closer to March 25th when the opportunity to promote the summer season nationwide will be lost. It's important to forge bipartisan agreement to provide short and long term funding for Pure Michigan. We look forward to working with the Governor, Senate and House leadership towards that end."
"Pure Michigan generates new tax revenues for cash-strapped cities and struggling state schools," Yencich said. "If the Legislature acts in time, Pure Michigan can put our state on the minds of travelers everywhere, creating new jobs for college graduates, unemployed workers and young people everywhere. And that will be good news for Michigan's struggling economy."
Based in Lansing, the Michigan Lodging & Tourism Association (MLTA) is a 105-year-old trade association that educates, markets, and advocates on behalf of Michigan's lodging and tourism industries.
