Tough Mudder to Crown World's Toughest in 24-hour, Non-Stop Endurance Event
BROOKLYN, N.Y., April 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Tough Mudder, Probably the Toughest Event on the Planet, announced today its "World's Toughest Mudder" competition, a 24-hour, non-stop endurance challenge that will award one man and one woman the title of "World's Toughest Mudder." The event will take place at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ, during the weekend of December 17-18, 2011, starting at 10:00 a.m. EST on Saturday.
World's Toughest Mudder is the culminating event in the Tough Mudder series and will challenge elite Mudders from across the world to record the most laps of a 10-mile course featuring 30 of the world's most demanding obstacles. Participants must qualify by finishing in the top five percent at any 2010 or 2011 Tough Mudder event.
"The obstacles will remain a mystery until event weekend," said Tough Mudder CEO and co-founder Will Dean. "Previous Tough Mudder events will be the tip of the iceberg – maybe even literally – compared to what World's Toughest Mudder competitors will be put through. With only the toughest of all Tough Mudders participating, we expect the top finisher to be equal to, if not greater-than, the toughest person on the planet."
After 24 grueling hours, one man and one woman will have bested more than 150,000 Mudders for the title of "World's Toughest Mudder." The winner in each of the male and female categories will receive $10,000 and set the finish line for the remaining participants, who will get four more hours to tally the same number of laps to earn the designation of "finisher." It's predicted that only 10 percent of participants will attain this status.
Qualified participants can sign up between May 2 and Dec. 1, 2011. Mudders who did not finish in the top five percent can still sign up for the "wild card" list, in hopes of receiving one of a select number of additional spots.
In 2010, Tough Mudder participants raised over $700,000 in support of its official charity partner, the Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit organization aimed at helping American servicemen and servicewomen who have been severely injured in combat. The company's goal is to raise over $2 million in 2011.
