Touchjet Pond™ Projector Disrupts Education Market by Creating Interactive Classrooms
Teachers Share How the Device Produces Collaborative Learning for All Ages
SAN FRANCISCO, June 29, 2015 Today, at the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Conference, Touchjet announced the Touchjet Pond™ Projector to bring collaboration and cooperative learning to classrooms. This technology offers a counter balance to the one-to-one technology movement where students complete assignments and work on individual devices as opposed to together as a group.
The Touchjet Pond Projector turns any wall or table surface into an 80-inch interactive touchscreen where students and teachers can display and interact with Android educational apps, fostering group problem solving and social learning.
The device is already being used in select classrooms, including the Austin Independent School District, and is receiving high praise from teachers and administrators.
"The Pond is an instructional tool that allows learners to showcase their projects by making work visible and interactive," said Diana McMillan, teacher at Mathews Elementary in Austin, Texas. "I'm planning to write a grant and find the support I need to have this valuable tool in my classroom!"
For example, teachers in Austin are using the device for various activities to promote interactive learning:
- Group reading lessons from various reading apps
- Integrated coding sessions using code.org and teachers' coding programs
- Partner research on animal identification and classifications
- Early literacy stations for sound and letter recognition
"A recent study from Futuresource Consulting Ltd showed that by the next academic year, mobile devices will be available for 1-to-1 computing for half of the U.S. K-12 student and teacher population. We believe that there needs to be a balance, so educators don't sacrifice opportunities for collaboration and group learning," said Holly De Leon, educational specialist for Touchjet. "Some curriculum is best taught through individual learning, but other subjects require collaboration so students learn together while improving their social skills."
