Total Dust Control Solution for All Methods of Sand Handling
TULSA, Okla., March 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- AIRIS Wellsite Services is demonstrating the comprehensive scope of its total dust control solution. A leading E&P company contracted with AIRIS to bring its last mile logistical system into full compliance with respect to respirable crystalline silica exposure levels.
"The universal nature of our total dust control solution means we can rig up on traditional sand movers, sand silos and last mile logistical systems," says Santo Petitto, AIRIS Vice President of Sales. "Our patented technology is being deployed to sites using a last mile logistical system to ensure full compliance related to silica exposure."
Respirable silica dust is generated wherever sand is transferred at the frac site. By default, silos and last mile logistical systems eliminate some exposure points, but they fail to address all areas of equipment-generated silica dust.
"It's the difference between a partial reduction and a total solution," adds Petitto. "AIRIS's patented technology is proven to put sites in compliance with OSHA standards, regardless of type of the sand handling equipment clients are using."
Central to the stricter obligations of the new OSHA ruling is a 50% reduction on the permissible exposure level for respirable crystalline silica. Workers are vulnerable to overexposure at virtually every frac site not using engineering controls. Breathing silica dust can have devastating long-term effects, like silicosis, chronic bronchitis and lung cancer.
The stricter OSHA standards are effective now and will be enforced beginning in June 2018. Failing to control employees' exposure to respirable silica dust can leave companies vulnerable to both compliance violations and potential medical and legal liabilities.
