Toshiba To Use Basis Technology's Rosette Name Matching In Its Export Management System

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Aug. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Basis Technology, the leader in multilingual text analytics, announced today that Toshiba Corp. will use Basis Technology's Rosette® name matching capability in Toshiba's export management system.

Toshiba has built their export management system in order to strengthen compliance and the management of transactions, and will use Rosette to screen various published watch lists for transactions in Japan and overseas, automatically checking names against watch lists which are updated daily.

To address the problem of matching names when people's names are written in a foreign language, with abbreviations, or misspellings, Rosette can match the names of people or companies against various watch lists, overcoming variations in how the names are written. By using Rosette, it is possible to match the names of people or companies from any country, regardless of which language it is written in, because Rosette takes an approach based on intelligent use of phonetics and orthography. In addition, because it knows how name spelling patterns vary in each language, its fuzzy matching can prevent matches being missed.

The main features of Rosette are as follows:

• Matching the name being checked even if it is written differently than the person's name on the list
• Finding a name even with spelling variations and mistakes
• Matching even when the family name and given name are out of order
