SAN FRANCISCO, March 21, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Global Mobility Management (GMM) company Topia today announced it has named Randy Barr to the new role of Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). A distinguished IT security expert, Barr will oversee all aspects of data and platform security for Topia's global operations, from ensuring regulatory compliance to building security measures into the product development process.
"Security is top of mind for companies and employees alike, but for us, the stakes are extremely high. Not only do we want to protect our own company's information, but also the employee data for every company that has entrusted us with their business," said Topia CEO Shawn Farshchi. "Confidence is a core part of our value proposition. Having worked with Randy previously, I know he brings the strategic vision and operational execution we need to lead the industry and serve as a model for our customers."
A recognized expert in global SaaS and infrastructure security, Barr was named to ExecRank's list of the Top 100 Security Experts for three consecutive years. A sought-after speaker and visionary in the security industry, Barr brings more than 20 years of IT and leadership experience to Topia, including work in the human capital management industry. He serves on the advisory boards of several cloud companies and is a frequent guest speaker at IT and security conferences
Most recently, Barr served as CISO at Aryaka Networks, overseeing security for the company's global private WAN-as-a-Service solution. As the former CISO at Saba, the Talent Development company, Barr created the company's global security program from the ground up, including policy creation, logical and technical controls, vulnerability assessment and a mechanism for weaving security review into the product development lifecycle. Prior to Saba, Barr held chief security and IT management positions at leading cloud companies including ServiceSource, Qualys, Yodlee and WebEx Communications.
"Topia has already blazed a trail in the global mobility industry and, through its product and policy efforts, has positioned itself to be a data security leader. I see a tremendous opportunity to set the standard for platform and data security by spearheading global innovation in that space as well," Barr said. "Security is an integral part of the company's product strategy and roadmap. I look forward to working closely with the product team to continue Topia's focus on data security in a way that is relevant to our customer's needs."
In amplifying Topia's security posture, Barr will focus on six key areas: optimizing and streamlining systems and protocols, particularly in light of Topia's acquisition of Polaris Global Mobility and Teleport respectively; ensuring execution of technical controls with scalability for growth; risk and gap analysis: implementing new protocols and tools as needed; implementing compliance measures; and clearly communicating security protocols to customers for audit and compliance confidence.
Topia's cloud-based platform provides comprehensive, automated mobile workforce management with interactive tools that ensure a positive employee experience. It integrates with leading HRIS platforms, payroll providers, and immigration solutions to turn mobility into a strategic advantage for some of the world's most recognizable businesses.
