HOUSTON, July 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Global sports entertainment leader Topgolf® kicks off fundraising for its partnership with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center tomorrow. This collaboration aims to support those touched by cancer, to educate Topgolf guests about cancer prevention and to fundraise for MD Anderson's Center for Energy Balance.
From July 7 to Aug. 7, Topgolf guests can join the company in raising funds to help end cancer. By making a minimum $5 contribution, donors will receive a $10 off game play coupon, valid for use on a return visit to Topgolf. All funds raised through the Topgolf End Cancer Campaign will support programs and research at MD Anderson's Center for Energy Balance in Cancer Prevention and Survivorship, which was founded to help bridge the gaps in knowledge surrounding the relationships among physical activity, nutrition, obesity and cancer.
"Too many individuals have been affected by cancer, including many of our associates and guests, which is why we are proud to support MD Anderson's mission to end cancer by promoting an active lifestyle and healthy behaviors," said Topgolf Entertainment Group Co-Chairman and CEO Erik Anderson.
MD Anderson cancer survivor Travis Arnold mentioned that during his recovery, he and his family made frequent trips to their local Topgolf venue in Houston. It provided him an opportunity to have fun with his family, while leaving thoughts of treatment behind.
"Being a big fan of Topgolf, I'm especially grateful for their End Cancer Campaign, which will help raise money and awareness about the need for cancer research," said Arnold. "Research helped save my life, and I'm thankful to Topgolf and others who support this campaign."
The Center for Energy Balance research advances the science related to cancer prevention and survivorship-related interventions; the ways in which key energy balance concepts affect cancer biomarkers; and the biological and psychosocial mechanisms behind weight, eating behavior and physical activity.
