ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Later this month, 134 technicians from around the country will gather at the Walt Disney Swan & Dolphin Resort to take part in the 10th annual American Trucking Associations' Technology & Maintenance Council TMCSuperTech National Technician Skills Competition.
The competition will be held September 22-24 in conjunction with TMC's annual fall meeting.
"Technicians play a critical role in keeping our industry moving, and for a decade now TMC has recognized their professional excellence with TMCSuperTech," said ATA President and CEO Bill Graves. "This competition highlights the training, skills and knowledge required to do an increasingly complex job. Our industry needs more highly skilled technicians and TMCSuperTech is an excellent way to underscore their important place in the trucking industry."
TMCSuperTech contestants must complete a series of written testing and hands-on trials before moving on to the daylong skills challenge featuring 14 stations testing an array of skills ranging from general truck maintenance and electronic diagnostics to safety and environmental practices.
Winners are recognized across a number of categories, but ultimately only one competitor is named TMCSuperTech Grand Champion.
