Top Gun Options Founder E. Matthew 'Whiz' Buckley Selected as Honorary Chairperson for the 10th Anniversary Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K on April 26
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., March 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Decorated Navy veteran Matthew 'Whiz' Buckley, founder of Top Gun Options, is honored to have been selected as an honorary co-chair for the Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K.
Buckley lost his older sister in 1982 when he was still in high school, and she was attending Villanova University. She was 19 years old. In an effort to heal and make sure that such a tragedy would not happen again, he was inspired to volunteer with Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Since getting involved with the Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K in 2018, he has been the top fundraiser every year.
"I am humbled and honored to serve again," said Buckley. "My family and I will never get over the senseless loss of Monica and I'm going to do all I can to see that others don't suffer the way we did."
On Sunday, April 26, thousands of walkers and runners will participate in the 10th Anniversary Ultimate Software presents the Salah Foundation & UBS Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5k brought to you by Memorial Healthcare System. This event is MADD Broward County's annual signature fundraising event in support of its mission to end drunk driving.
Buckley will serve as an honorary co-chair alongside Major Robert Chandler, Commander of Troop L, Florida Highway Patrol's Largest Troop. Buckley and Chandler will join Founder & MADD National Board Chair Heather Geronemus, MADD CEO Adam Vanek, and other dignitaries at the event.
"MADD is honored to have passionate, committed leaders like Matthew 'Whiz' Buckley on our team of lifesavers. We stand together to save lives and change perspectives on the dangers of drunk and drugged driving before tragedies occur," said Geronemus, who established the Fort Lauderdale event since 2011. Her late father, Dr. Robert Perry Geronemus, was struck and killed by a drunk driver in 2009.
