Top Golf Stars Impressed by HSBC Junior Golfers at WGC-HSBC Champions
SHANGHAI, Nov. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2016 WGC-HSBC Champions has left a lasting legacy for China's aspiring young junior golfers on the CGA-HSBC China Junior Golf Programme. They enjoyed the opportunity to play alongside the world's best golfers and showcase to the world the strength of the new generation of China junior golfers, impressing many of the WGC-HSBC Champions' leading golf stars.
HSBC National Junior Golf Championship Grand Final winner Yang Jinx played the 17th hole of the pro-am with U.S. Masters champion Danny Willett, 2016 WGC-HSBC Champions winner Hideki Matsuyama and US Ryder Cup star, Ryan Moore. Yang missed the green, but he chipped from the rough to within three feet and tapped in for par. An impressed Willett returned with a 5-feet birdie.
Yang Jinx said "I am fortunate to play golf with the world-class stars. When I teed up, I felt a bit nervous because I realised the person standing beside me isn't an average golfer, he is Danny Willett! I was dreaming of when I could compete with them in such a big tournament. Thanks to this programme! Hopefully I can be a pro golfer to compete with them at the tournament in the future."
HSBC junior golfer Fang Shuangshuang picked the brains of Wu Ashun, Brooks Koepka, Louis Oothuizen and Charl Schwartzel, while European Ryder Cup stars Rafael Cabrera Bello and Martin Kaymer spent time giving invaluable guidance to HSBC junior golfer Song Weilun. Cabrera Bello advised Song how to workout more effectively while Kaymer worked with Song on shot-shaping and encouraged Song to work hard.
The CGA-HSBC China Junior Golf Program is the only officially sanctioned junior golf program in China. The program has strong sponsor support from HSBC and is supervised by a development committee that is formed by representatives from HSBC, CGA, IMG and R&A. It not only provides a platform for talented joiner golfers to develop their potential, but also, at the grassroots level, introduces many children to the game of golf. Outstanding alumni Li Haotong and Lin Xiyu represented China at 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero.
The CGA-HSBC China Junior Golf Program is a systematic and sustainable plan that is designed to support the grassroots development of Chinese golf on a long term basis.
