Top Colorado Women Leaders to Speak at CU Women's Council Leadership (WILD) Summit III
Conference is close to selling out as hundreds register to attend WILD Summit III on April 10, 2014 in Westminster
BOULDER, Colo., April 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Women's Council, part of CU's Leeds School of Business, today announced a line-up of top women leaders from across the Front Range to speak at its annual Women Inspiring Leadership Development (WILD) Summit on Friday, April 10. Barbara Mowry, CEO and founder of GoreCreek Advisors, has been selected as the morning's keynote speaker; Elaine Feeney, president and CEO of Wayin, will deliver the luncheon speech; and, new this year, there will be a trilogy of three women at various stages of their lives and careers providing closing "Ted-like" talks about their experiences, choices and learnings throughout their lives.
"We are thrilled and honored to have women of this caliber speak at this year's WILD Summit," said Cindy Carrillo, event chair for the WILD Summit III. "All the speakers and panelists have amazing stories to share. They have different perspectives and experiences that will touch all facets of our audience," she explained. "We want people to walk away from WILD III thinking about the choices they have made throughout their lives as women, mentors, leaders, mothers, students and more. It will 'move the needle' for everyone who attends."
Each year, the WILD Summit sells out early and it's no different this year - tickets are almost gone for this year's event. "We only have a couple dozen tickets left – we expect to be sold out very soon," Carrillo said. "We love this community of top women leaders and students we have built in Colorado. It continues to grow and be in greater demand every subsequent year. It is a testimony to the women in our state who are hungry for sharing, connecting and helping others. It has been an amazing experience to see first-hand."
Besides the outstanding keynote speakers, there are six breakout sessions throughout the morning that touch on some of today's most pressing issues for women of all ages, career levels and interests. Session topics include:
Boxed in? You have more options than you think
When life gets busy, we sometimes fail to recognize the potential options we have to improve the quality of our lives. In this hands-on workshop facilitated by dynamic career coach, Barb Garrison, attendees will enjoy an open discussion about unlocking choices when they feel boxed in and hear inspiring stories from women leaders who have done just that.
Leveraging Masculine and Feminine Strengths: Better Choices, Better Leaders, Better Results
Experts say that the old predominately masculine style of leadership is bankrupt. Effective leaders today must have a balance of masculine and feminine strengths. Research demonstrates that organizations with gender diversity at the top have measurably better results. In this interactive session, attendees will understand why leveraging both masculine and feminine strengths can make a difference – and how to use this information to benefit their own career and their organizations' bottom lines.
The Art and Science of Making Confident Decisions
How to make confident decisions that carry across work/home/community
Every day you've got to make decisions in your business and personal life. Managers and employees make multiple decisions for their businesses throughout the day. Are there tools to use and skills to learn that can increase attendees (and their employees') confidence in decision making?
Three professional athletes talk about the split-second decisions they have made in their sport and how the skill of confident and decisive decision making has led to success in the businesses they now run.
Strategic and Authentic Networking: Research-based strategies that work for women
Map your network and learn how you can make your network more effective.
During this session, you will look at common network traps, and learn about the most effective way to utilize your network. Participants are invited to participate in a research study on women's networking.
Choices and Trade-offs in Sustainability – Exploring the Female Perspective
Sustainability in the business world continues to gain traction and credibility as a solution for what faces society on a number of fronts: health and nutrition, food supply issues, water scarcity, energy efficiency, waste management, and resource conservation. This panel will explore the unique perspective women bring to the table as the tough questions are explored and the necessary choices are framed-up.
Casting yourself: Choosing an Effective Presentation Strategy
Notes from a casting director - learn to get your message across professionally, passionately and convincingly.
What Rody Kent learned in the film industry she now translates for senior executives who wish to refine their executive presence - whether they are on camera for CNN, conducting town hall meetings, or communicating with analysts, C-suite leaders, or a board of directors. She does a tremendous job beginning with a senior leader's key strengths and helps redirect their passion for excellence into key messages people can remember and act upon. Rody also helps translate messages across functional areas, including R&D, commercial, medical, operations, finance, legal and marketing.
