PHOENIX, March 11, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- About one in four Americans say they will take a spring break this year, according to a study by Offers.com, and nearly a quarter of them plan to stay with friends or family in place of traveling. That means those who are hosting spring breakers or planning to have a staycation at home to enjoy their own swimming pool, should take added precautions to keep everyone safe in and around the pool.
Leslie's Pool Supplies, the world's largest pool supplies retailer, is offering safety tips for entertaining in the pool area or enjoying the first dip of the season with guests.
- Find out if every guest knows how to swim. Kids who can't swim might enjoy learning to swim with the help of learn to swim products. But whether or not everyone can swim, kids should always be supervised around the pool.
- Secure the pool area. Though most pool owners are required to fence their pool area, visiting kids might get curious about the pool and enter the area without anyone noticing. Installing an alarm on the door to the pool will alert adults in the home that the door to the pool has been accessed.
- Put an alarm in the pool. Visiting children – and pets – who aren't accustomed to being around a pool can fall in unnoticed. A pool water alarm is an affordable way to make sure an unexpected pool entry is immediately detected.
- Check the water quality. If the pool has been unused for much of the season but will be enjoyed over spring break, it's important to check that the water is healthy. In-home water tests will show if the pool needs maintenance, or, for added peace of mind, Leslie's offers free, expert in-store water testing. The experts on hand can provide expert advice and products to handle any issue found.
- Stow the pool toys. A pool filled with floats and toys add festive fun to a day in the pool – but be sure to remove them when swim time is over. Toys floating in the pool when not in use can attract a child or pet to the pool's edge where they can easily fall in.
"Spring break is often the first time in the year that people jump into a pool, and at Leslie's we always want to remind customers that healthy water and overall pool safety are paramount even though it's not official pool season just yet," said Leslie's Vice President of Marketing and Communications Tracy Dick. "When it comes to spending time poolside, it's easy to get complacent with maintenance or distracted with guests in town. A few simple precautions can ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy a fabulous spring break together around the pool."
