Tonya T. Robinson Named General Counsel Of KPMG LLP
NEW YORK, Oct. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm, today announced the appointment of Tonya T. Robinson to the post of General Counsel, effective October 1, 2017. She succeeds Joseph I. Loonan, who has been with KPMG for over 30 years and has held the position of General Counsel for the past 12 years. Mr. Loonan remains at KPMG as special counsel to the chairman.
As General Counsel, Ms. Robinson will be responsible for coordinating the legal affairs of the firm and for managing the Office of General Counsel, including attorneys, auditors and advisory personnel, who provide legal services to the firm and its personnel.

Ms. Robinson joins KPMG from the position as Acting General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington D.C. Over the course of her career, she has served in both private practice and the public sector, including being a partner in the law firm WilmerHale in Washington, D.C. before joining President Obama's Domestic Policy Council as Special Assistant to the President for Justice and Regulatory Policy.
After leaving the White House, Ms. Robinson joined the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as Principal Deputy General Counsel before being named Acting General Counsel.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Robinson served the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary as Counsel to Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Crime & Drugs, the Honorable Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Previously, she also served Members of both the House and Senate as a legislative assistant.
Ms. Robinson received her Juris Doctor Degree from Harvard Law School and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Duke University.
She is a frequent guest speaker, most notably on topics of policy-making and justice, recently presenting at The Brookings Institution Executive Education Program.
