NEW YORK, May 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Cellphone customers looking for the best mix of plans, performance and customer support should turn to Verizon. The carrier is Tom's Guide's pick for the best cellphone service provider after beating eight rival carriers.
Verizon recently finished on top of Tom's Guide's customer service and network performance testing results. Those strong performances, combined with Verizon's attractive mix of unlimited and tiered data plans, pushed the carrier ahead of T-Mobile, which held the top-carrier title in Tom's Guide's last survey. This year's runner-up, T-Mobile, offers an appealing unlimited data plan, industry-leading special features and fast LTE.
T-Mobile subsidiary MetroPCS was the top-ranked discount carrier and took third overall, thanks to its strong network performance and a good range of prepaid plans. MetroPCS finished ahead of Sprint, which grabbed fourth place in the Tom's Guide rankings.
"Wireless shoppers spend a lot of money each year on service, and our special report shows which carriers provide the best overall value," said Mark Spoonauer, editor-in-chief of Tom's Guide. "Verizon showed why it deserves to be No. 1."
Tom's Guide bases its carrier rankings on the results of its undercover customer service testing, LTE network testing in six cities, and evaluation of monthly data plans that each carrier offers. Tom's Guide also looks at the selection of phones from each carrier, along with special features, such as rates for using cellphones overseas, and other customer perks.
