Tom Fascia of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern NJ Named Big Brother of the Year

CRESSKILL, N.J., Nov. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The oldest and largest mentoring organization in the United States, Big Brothers Big Sisters, recently announced their Big Brother of the Year. The honor was granted to Tom Fascia of Randolph, New Jersey, representing the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern NJ division.

Fascia and Amir first met eight years ago, when Amir was 6 years old. Fascia could tell immediately that Amir hadn't yet had a nap when the two were introduced; Amir was grumpy and didn't want to be in the room. However, after a few minutes of trial and error, Fascia was able to get Amir to laugh, and he knew that the two would be able to get along with each other.

Fascia and Amir share an ideal Big Brother / Little Brother relationship. Fascia is in close contact with Amir's family members, who provide insight into Amir's daily life. Likewise, Amir participates directly in Fascia's family life, regularly attending holidays, family vacations, and dinners. The two are highly active in the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization, appearing at fundraising galas, posting regularly on the Facebook page, and Fascia is on the agency's Leadership Council.

Big Brothers Big Sisters was first founded in 1967 with the goal of matching children between the ages of 6 and 17, primarily those who live in a single-parent home, with parental incarceration, or in poverty, with screened, trained, and supervised mentors.
