Tom Daschle, Newt Gingrich, Other Health Policy & Industry Leaders Join VitalSpring Board of Advisors
Experts will advise VitalSpring on business strategy and growth opportunities
MCLEAN, Va., April 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- VitalSpring Technologies, an enterprise cloud-based analytics firm that is unique in connecting and harnessing data from every part of the health care system, today announced that health industry luminaries Sen. Tom Daschle, Rep. Newt Gingrich and Thomas Emerick, among several other leaders, have joined the company's newly created Board of Advisors. These advisors will counsel VitalSpring on strategy as it expands its footprint within the health ecosystem.
The new board members are recognized health care pioneers, innovators and reformers, bringing decades of policy and business expertise to VitalSpring. The full board now includes:
- U.S. Sen. Tom Daschle, former majority leader, U.S. Senate
- Thomas Emerick, former vice president, global benefit design, Walmart
- U.S. Rep. Newt Gingrich, former speaker, U.S. House of Representatives
- George Lazenby, former CEO, Emdeon
- Hon. Tevi Troy, former deputy secretary, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
VitalSpring provides cloud-based technology to health insurers and large employers that helps them harness health care data – including data from providers, payers and consumers themselves – in powerful and, until now, untapped ways. VitalSpring products have helped many Fortune-500 companies reduce costs, measure outcomes and improve the overall benefits provided to employees and patients.
"At this critical juncture for health care in America, what VitalSpring offers is a potentially transformative platform," Sen. Daschle said. "I am proud to serve on the VitalSpring advisory board, and look forward to playing a role in connecting the company's solutions to organizations that will use them to better manage their data, lower costs and ultimately provide better care to patients."
Health care is an information- and data-rich industry – yet to date no one has been able to truly manage and analyze that data in a cost-effective way. In fact, at many insurance carriers, as much as 60 cents of every dollar is spent on data management. The VitalSpring platform connects disparate data in order to optimize data management and analysis.
"I've worked at some of the biggest employers in the world, and I've seen the overwhelming volume of data that these organizations face," said Emerick. "The marketplace desperately needs a comprehensive solution, and I'm pleased to advise VitalSpring as they work to fill that gap."
"The Affordable Care Act has redefined America's health care landscape, as well as the expectations placed upon doctors and payers," Speaker Gingrich added. "I was an early advocate for electronic health records, and today I continue to believe that technology – including that offered by VitalSpring – holds the key to building a less fragmented, more effective and more sustainable health care system. I'm pleased to join this board to ensure that the magnitude of the VitalSpring solution is brought to bear for as many organizations as possible."
"VitalSpring has been helping the largest U.S. employers and insurance providers improve the cost and quality of health care for more than a decade," VitalSpring CEO Sreedhar Potarazu said. "Formalizing our long-standing relationships with this diverse group of thought leaders is an important next step in bringing VitalSpring's platform to new customers, and we're proud to have earned their support."
