August 25 Event in Bozeman, MT to Highlight Need for Greater Civics Education to Prepare Students to Be Active and Responsible Citizens
BOZEMAN, Mont., Aug. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Saturday, August 25, the Joe Foss Institute (JFI) will hold its 2012 Stars in Service event at Copper Spring Ranch in Bozeman, Montana. In addition to honoring some preeminent national heroes and public servants, attendees will be treated to a keynote address by renowned journalist, author and JFI Advisory Board member, Tom Brokaw. Attendees will also be able to participate in two equestrian clinics earlier in the day presented by renowned horseman Clinton Anderson of Downunder Horsemanship.
"We are very excited to have two world-class personalities participating in the Stars in Service event," said JFI President & CEO Lucian Spataro, Jr. "Our guests are in for a tremendous display of horsemanship by Clinton in the afternoon and a dynamic speech from Tom later in the day."
Clinton Anderson has a long history of working with our nation's service men and women, including the Old Guard in Virginia and sees sharing his knowledge with soldiers and veterans as a way to pay it forward.
"I have the highest degree of respect for our country's military men and women who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to preserve the freedoms we enjoy," explained Downunder Horsemanship's Anderson. "Although I am a native Australian, one of the proudest moments in my life was when I earned my American citizenship in 2006. I have a deep love and respect for this country that has grown considerably over the course of my career."
Tom Brokaw met Joe Foss as a young student from South Dakota and the two struck up an instant friendship and maintained a close relationship until Foss' death in 2003.
"For me, Joe always personified the idea of American public service and patriotism," said Brokaw. "Now that Joe is gone, it is up to the rest of us to advance the work of the Joe Foss Institute; which will make plain to generations of students and young people how important it is to be a patriot and a dedicated citizen of this country."
