Tolly Group Shows Ubiquiti Networks UniFi 802.11ac WiFi Access Points Deliver Over 46 Percent Faster Throughput Than Current Alternatives
Citing UniFi's Immediate Performance Benefits, Report Suggests Time to Deploy 802.11ac is Now
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Ubiquiti Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: UBNT), a next-generation communications technology company, today announced its new UniFi 802.11ac WiFi access points delivered more than 46 percent faster upstream throughput and 48 percent downstream throughput than existing 802.11n alternatives in tests conducted by The Tolly Group. In addition to demonstrating the significant performance benefits of emerging 802.11ac technology, the UniFi 802.11ac AP was found to deliver 10 percent faster throughput for current 802.11n devices—underscoring the benefits of deploying 802.11ac now.
"This was our first 'real world' evaluation of an enterprise 802.11ac access point," said Kevin Tolly, Founder of The Tolly Group, a provider of third-party testing and validation services. "Not only did UniFi show impressive performance gains for 802.11ac clients but also an increase for current 802.11n client devices connected to an 802.11ac AP."
The Tolly Group evaluated Ubiquiti's new UniFi 802.11ac access point against current 802.11n offerings from Aruba Networks, Ruckus Wireless and Cisco Systems, which haven't yet made 802.11ac systems available. 802.11ac is the first Wi-Fi technology enabling wireline performance in a wireless environment. According to a report from In-Stat, shipments of client devices using 802.11ac will reach nearly one billion by 2015*. This widespread deployment of 802.11ac is expected to significantly reduce the need for wired clients outside the data center.
"Ubiquiti continues to set the industry benchmark for enterprise Wi-Fi price/performance," said Robert J. Pera, CEO of Ubiquiti Networks. "At $299 per AP, we believe that organizations of any size can prepare now for the arrival of 802.11ac devices while enjoying the immediate benefits of faster throughput for current devices."
To help customers experience the immediate benefits of 802.11ac, Ubiquiti is offering a free upgrade program to UniFi 802.11ac for Aruba Networks and Ruckus Wireless AP users. Details can be found at http://go.ubnt.com/UpgradeMyWiFi. As previously announced, the new UniFi 3.0 management software is available for free download today at www.ubnt.com.
Initial customer shipments of the UniFi 802.11ac access point are expected this month, with volume shipments anticipated in May.
