Together We Will Move Forward

WASHINGTON, Nov. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Tuesday, the majority of Americans voted for Hillary Rodham Clinton for President, however, the rules of the Electoral College delivered the presidency to Donald J. Trump. We will work with elected leaders across the political spectrum to ensure that the values of our nation and our Union are upheld and defended.

In the words of one of the great U.S. labor leaders, Samuel Gompers, "What does labor want? We want more schoolhouses and less jails; more books and less arsenals; more learning and less vice; more leisure and less greed; more justice and less revenge; in fact, more of the opportunities to cultivate our better natures..."

There were several important wins our members are proud to have had a hand in: the defeat of the so-called "right to work" constitutional amendment in Virginia, the election of the first Latina Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), the first ever Indian American Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA), the victory of Maggie Hassan (D-NH) in the competitive and closely watched Senate race, and Illinois Senator, Democrat Tammy Duckworth, the first woman Senator to have seen combat. We thank our fellow union members for their unprecedented activity in the democratic process, canvassing, phone banking, attending rallies, and casting their votes for worker-friendly candidates and ballot initiatives.

We will work with elected leaders and continue fighting for expansion of BAC work opportunities, equal rights and dignity for all, and shared prosperity in America. Together we will move forward with renewed commitment to build member engagement for policies that matter, and toward the 2018 election.

It is our sincere hope that the next president prioritizes building safe communities for families to live, learn and work in, and is committed to justice and opportunity for all, and we commit to supporting him in efforts to do just that.
