Together We Can: Art Van Furniture and WXYZ-TV Team Up for Canned Food Drive
WARREN, Mich., Oct. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- It's the most basic need of all, but still reportedly, one in every four households in Michigan face hunger. More than one in eight people will need emergency food assistance this year, and the poverty level is out of control. Art Van Furniture and WXYZ-TV believe that "Together We Can" make a difference.
From October 24 through November 24, donations of non-perishable can food items can be dropped off at any of the 34 Art Van Furniture locations throughout Michigan. The donations will then be turned over to Gleaners Community Food Bank, which has been feeding the hungry in Michigan for over 30 years.
"Art Van Furniture is proud to help fill the void of this critical need in our community," says Art Van Elslander, chairman and founder of Michigan's largest furniture retailer. "The work that Gleaners does is phenomenal, and it's a joy for us to team up with WXYZ-TV to brighten some lives in our community during the holidays."
Last year, Gleaners distributed 40 million pounds of emergency food to over 500 partner soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe Counties. All guests are encouraged to drop off can goods to any Art Van location in support of this "Together We Can" campaign.
