TNMNews Explores Rise of Marijuana Banking in New Show Airing Presidents Day Weekend 2015
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Marijuana News Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of DigiPath, Inc. (OTCBB andOTCQB: DIGP), has just released its seventh unbiased cannabis news show. Hosts Todd Denkin and Jen Gentile explore the cannabis industry's need for a banking system with Taylor West, the Deputy Director for the National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA), and the potential for low wholesale prices with cannabis queen Cheryl Shuman. The episode is available to stream at tnmnews.com and will air on select terrestrial radio stations throughout the country.
First up, NCIA Deputy Director Taylor West describes her organization's efforts to establish a legitimate banking system for marijuana businesses. West claims that what is most needed is an act of Congress "that says that banks are not going to be prosecuted for any sort of drug-related offenses if they're working with businesses that are operating in a state-sanctioned environment."
West says that the National Cannabis Industry Association aims "to promote growth of a responsible and legitimate cannabis industry and work for a favorable social, economic, and legal environment for that industry in the United States. It defends against threats to the legal market for cannabis and cannabis-related products and hosts regular education and networking events to better the cannabis business community and heighten sophistication throughout the industry."
For more than a decade, West has held leadership and communication positions in political, nonprofit, and commercial enterprises. A former strategist for a variety of policy and regulatory reform efforts, she also held the post of communications director for National Journal and appeared on MSNBC, Fox News, and CNBC news programs.
Later in the episode, ovarian cancer survivor Cheryl Shuman speaks on marketing and branding medical marijuana and cannabis-based products. Schuman has launched several marijuana-themed organizations, including Beverly Hills NORML, Beverly Hills Cannabis Club, and Moms for Marijuana.
During her conversation with TNMNews, Shuman explains that someone has to "take the lead here and educate people, because how we change minds and how we take cannabis from the criminal sector into the lawful sector is through education and awareness. I feel like if I have to take a few hits and some people don't want to listen to what I have to say, I'm okay with that … my job is to get the topic of cannabis at the dinner table and at the water cooler."
