TMX Group Welcomes PDAC 2015 Delegates to Toronto
Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange participating in series of events
TORONTO, Feb. 27, 2015 /CNW/ - TMX Group, one of the world's leading mining exchange groups, is pleased to welcome the international mining community to Toronto for the annual Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada's (PDAC) International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange, held next week from March 1 to 4. TMX Group is participating in a series of conference and associated events, including panel sessions, workshops, presentations, as well as market openings and closings.
"Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange are delighted to be active participants at the 2015 PDAC Convention," said Kevan Cowan, President, TSX Markets and Group Head of Equities, TMX Group. "The Exchanges have a strong and leading history of supporting the growth of global mining companies, from grass roots explorers to developers and producers. Each year we look forward to engaging and working with mining representatives from around the globe at this pinnacle event."
On Monday, March 2, Mr. Cowan will provide a keynote address titled "Canada's market for all: An update from TSX and TSXV," which will provide an overview of capital raising options at TMX Group, from Canada's leading public equities markets, Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) and TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV), to the recently launched TSX Private Markets service.
A series of market open ceremonies are planned throughout the week. On Tuesday, March 3, TMX Group will host representatives from PDAC. On Wednesday, March 4, TMX Group will welcome representatives from the Santiago Stock Exchange to celebrate the new venture market in Chile: the Santiago Stock Exchange, Venture. TSXV and Santiago Stock Exchange entered into an agreement this time last year to leverage the experience of TSXV in facilitating capital formation for early-stage growth companies, while also providing the opportunity for TSXV issuers to dual-list on the new market. The Exchanges will also meet with the Chilean delegation next week, led by Chile's Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams Baussa.
Market close ceremonies are also planned at TSX this year. A business and government delegation from Colombia will close trading on March 2. TMX Group will also host mining ministers from several African countries the following day, on March 3, and a delegation from Argentina on March 4.
Tomorrow, February 28, TSX and TSXV, PwC and McCarthy Tétrault will co-host a dinner for a delegation from Peru. The Exchanges will also partner with KPMG and Fasken Martineau to co-host a breakfast seminar for a delegation from Mexico on March 3, including Mexico's ambassador to Canada, Francisco Suarez, and General Coordinator of Mining at Mexico's Ministry of Economy, Mario Cantú.
TSX and TSXV, on a combined basis, are the world's number one listing venue for mining companies. As at January 31, 2015, the Exchanges were home to 1,485 mining issuers that have a combined market capitalization of $266 billion. These companies raised almost $8.9 billion on TSX and TSXV combined in 2014, which represents 62% of all equity capital raised by the world's public mining companies last year.
For Market Openings and Closings: Media may pick up a feed from the TOC (television operations centre) for all market open and close ceremonies. The feed is named TSX Transmit 1 (SD-SDI) and is produced at the TMX Broadcast Centre and sent live to the Toronto TOC. Those featured in the market opening and market closing move into position for the ceremony at approximately 9:27 a.m. and 3:57 p.m. respectively and the markets will open/close with the sound of a siren (the traditional market open/close on Toronto Stock Exchange) at 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. ET.
