TORONTO, March 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ - TMX Group Inc. today announced February 2012 trading statistics for its diversified group of exchanges - Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, Montreal Exchange (MX) and Natural Gas Exchange (NGX), as well as TMX Select, TMX Group's alternative trading system.

Highlights

Trading volume on Toronto Stock Exchange in February 2012 was down both compared to January 2012 and compared to February 2011; with decreases of 3% and 14% respectively. Transactions increased 6% compared to February 2011, though fell 1% from January 2012. On a year-to-date basis, the number of transactions increased, though both volume and value were down compared to 2011 levels.

In February 2012, volume on TSX Venture Exchange increased 10% compared to January 2012, though was down 43% from the same month a year earlier. The number of transactions increased 21% in February 2012 compared to January 2012, though decreased 36% from February 2011. Year-to-date volume, value and transactions were down compared to 2011 figures.

Volume on MX increased 9% compared to the same month a year earlier, though fell 3% from January 2012. Open interest at the end of February 2012 increased 7% compared to the end of January 2012, and was up 25% compared to the end of February 2011. Year-to-date volume surpassed 2011 levels.

Volume on NGX increased 20% in February 2012 compared to January 2012, and was up 26% compared to February 2011. On a year-to-date basis, volume was down slightly from 2011 levels.
