TMA Will Honor Exceptional Volunteers at Spring Conference in New York
CHICAGO, March 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Robert D. Katz, CTP, and Judge Robert D. Martin, recipients of the 2009 Outstanding Individual Contribution Award, will be honored at the 2010 TMA Spring Conference, April 20–22, at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in New York.
Robert D. Katz
Robert Katz helped orchestrate many TMA firsts, such as the annual Distressed Investing Conference initiated in 2007. He helped conceive TMA's Cornerstone 15, a $1.5 million board-designated endowment; Webinars; and the first Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference.
A managing director of Executive Sounding Board Associates in Philadelphia, Katz has trumpeted TMA through support of its magazine, The Journal of Corporate Renewal, and firm representation at annual meetings. Since 2007, Katz has taught a turnaround management course at Temple University, where he earned his MBA.
Katz was elected chapter president in 2003 and the chapter won TMA's Most Improved Chapter of the Year award during his tenure. He immersed himself in TMA International activities and earned the certified turnaround professional credential.
Katz has served on TMA International's executive committee, board of directors and education oversight committee, among others. He held three TMA International vice president positions in university relations, education and public affairs.
Judge Robert D. Martin
More bankruptcy judges know about certified turnaround professionals largely because U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Robert Martin in the Western District of Wisconsin has worked hard at it.
Martin enlisted colleagues to serve on TMA's International Board of Directors, the former Association of Certified Turnaround Professionals board and TMA's Certification Oversight Committee, which replaced ACTP following its 2007 merger with TMA.
A former president of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, Martin helped inform peers about CTPs, wrote the law section of TMA's Body of Knowledge and has taught the related course at University of Wisconsin-Madison and six other sites. He also helped develop an advanced professional workshop for CTPs and CTP-Designates.
A graduate of Cornell College and University of Chicago, Martin worked as an attorney with Ross & Stevens in Madison until being appointed chief U.S. bankruptcy judge. Martin has taught bankruptcy courses, co-authored books about bankruptcy and secured transactions, and served on the faculty of the Federal Judicial Center School.
Chicago-based TMA, www.turnaround.org, has more than 9,000 members including turnaround practitioners, attorneys, accountants, investors, lenders, venture capitalists, appraisers, liquidators, executive recruiters and consultants.
