TMA Turns Spotlight on High-Achieving Chapters and Volunteers
ATLANTA, April 4, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Turnaround Management Association will honor three TMA chapters and two volunteers today during the 2012 TMA Spring Conference at the Grand Hyatt Atlanta-Buckhead.
Each year, TMA recognizes chapters that distinguish themselves in delivering excellent education, networking and community service, as well as members who raise the public profile of the corporate restructuring industry through their volunteer service. The winners are:
Dallas/Fort Worth - 2011 Chapter of the Year
Playing up restructuring headlines, the TMA Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter held a panel session on the American League champion Texas Rangers' bankruptcy with judicial and restructuring professionals who fashioned the outcome. The chapter's annual Corporate Renewal/Restructuring Boot Camp augmented regular education programs on the banking industry and other industry topics. The chapter also chapter raised more than $11,000 for a nonprofit organization supporting ill children and their families.
Brazil – 2011 International Chapter of the Year
Within three years, the TMA Brazil Chapter has transformed from a start-up chapter to a reference point for the corporate restructuring discipline in a region where the industry is adapting to a modernized corporate restructuring law. The chapter launched bimonthly education seminars, introduced a certification course based on the TMA Body of Knowledge courses and created an industry database for statistics pertaining to in-court reorganizations.
Louisiana – 2011 Most Improved Chapter of the Year
The TMA Louisiana Chapter capitalized on the timing of a university-led bankruptcy symposium to organize an education program featuring the state's bankruptcy judges. Lawyers also received expert advice about polishing their business knowledge before appearing with Chapter 11 debtors in bankruptcy court.
Peter L. Tourtellot, CTP – 2011 Outstanding Individual Contribution
Co-founder of Greensboro, N.C., firm Anderson Bauman Tourtellot Vos & Co., Tourtellot helped define the eligibility process for TMA's Certification Turnaround Professional (CTP) designation, underlining the importance of education from his earliest days as a TMA Carolinas Chapter founder to ascendant leadership roles in TMA Global. As TMA president and chairman, he oversaw TMA's international expansion, CTP marketing activities and communications. Later, he conceived and led a $1.5 million campaign establishing a board-designated endowment.
Cathy L. Reece - 2011 Outstanding Individual Contribution
From TMA Arizona Chapter president to TMA vice president positions at TMA Global, Reece has left her imprimatur on the organization's membership and conference strategies. She initiated a program to connect first-time conference attendees with active members and past officers, launched a committee to attract women, minorities, young professionals and other underrepresented groups to TMA, and introduced editorial features to the Journal of Corporate Renewal. Reece chairs the bankruptcy and creditor's rights practice at Fennemore Craig Attorneys in Phoenix, Ariz.
