TMA Annual Convention Offers Winning Strategies for Trying Times in Restructuring
CHICAGO, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With business credit still scarce and economic malaise magnified by record unemployment, restructuring professionals are embracing new strategies to restore value to troubled businesses. That reality will be the crux of panel sessions shaping the Turnaround Management Association's Annual Convention, Oct. 6-8, 2010, at the JW Marriott Grande Lakes resort in Orlando, Florida.
Legal, restructuring and financial consulting experts engaged in breathing new life into distressed companies will lead discussions on a wide range of topics over two days:
Thursday, October 7
- Breaking New Ground: Trends in Real Estate Restructuring, which identifies loan restructuring tactics and tools available through Chapter 11.
- Distressed Capital Markets: Present State and Future Trends, which reviews availability of high-yield and debtor-in-possession financing.
- Unlocking the Value of Intangible Assets to Enhance a Turnaround or Maximize Recovery, which examines methods of evaluating the value of trademarks and brands.
- Banking and Lending: Where Has My Lender Gone? How Do I Get Them Back?, which analyzes asset-based lending, rates, fees and the influence of constituent groups.
- Hurry Up and Wait: New Strategies and Potential Roadblocks in Pre-Packaged Bankruptcies, which surveys how recent "prepack" cases were resolved using the technique and potential pitfalls.
- The New Chapter 11 Playbook, which delineates such trends as fraudulent conveyance, Section 363 sales and prepacks as seen in recent cases.
An advanced educational session, also on Thursday, considers strategies for credit bidding, while ethics is front and center at panel discussions Friday, October 8:
- Stolen Without a Gun – Confessions of a White-Collar Felon, which features Walter "Walt" Pavlo, author of the aforementioned book, who served time in federal prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud and money laundering committed while he worked at MCI.
- Ethical Pitfalls in an Unethical World, which parses aspects of fraud perpetrated by clients.
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who now runs a consulting business and chairs a national foundation focused on education reform, will open the convention. Richard Teerlink, former CEO of Harley-Davidson and Pulitzer Prize winning columnist, Dave Barry, will speak at lunch and dinner, respectively, on Thursday.
Chicago-based TMA, www.turnaround.org, has more than 9,000 members, including turnaround practitioners, attorneys, accountants, investors, lenders, venture capitalists, appraisers, liquidators, executive recruiters and consultants.
