T.J. Martell Foundation to Host "ARTWORKS for the Cure 2012"

LOS ANGELES, March 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The T.J. Martell Foundation, the music industry's largest charity foundation that funds innovative leukemia, cancer and AIDS research, will be holding its annual "ARTWORKS for the Cure 2012," on Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29 at Pier 59 Studios West in Santa Monica, CA. The event brings the greater Los Angeles community together to enjoy two offbeat, eclectic events featuring contemporary art, music, food and wine while raising money for groundbreaking medical research. The weekend festivities include a cocktail reception and honoree dinner, as well as an art show, auction and sale.
T.J. Martell Foundation's "Spirit of Excellence Award," will be presented to Alex Hodges, CEO of Nederlander Concerts; Harvey Mason, Jr., celebrated music producer and songwriter; and Jillian Michaels, leading health and wellness expert. The award recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves through professional leadership and humanitarian efforts. The honoree cocktail party and dinner will take place on Saturday, April 28, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Pier 59 Studios. All of the art that will be featured in the Sunday art show will be available for preview and purchase on Saturday evening.

On Sunday, April 29, the T.J. Martell Foundation is proud to host its Benefit Art Show and Auction from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Pier 59 Studios. The afternoon will feature an eclectic selection of offbeat and alternative art that spans the spectrum from studio to street! The collection includes contemporary art, both originals and limited editions, from over 60 established and up-and-coming painters, sculptors and photographers including the graphic works of many well-known music artists. All artwork is for sale with all proceeds benefiting the T.J. Martell Foundation. Many of the artists will be in attendance, as well as personalities from music, film and television.
Over its history, the T.J. Martell Foundation has provided over $27 million to Children's Hospital Los Angeles to fund their ground breaking work in their fight against pediatric cancer. Grants provided by the T.J. Martell Foundation have produced amazing results, especially in the area of children's cancers, where the survival rate for neuroblastoma, a form of cancer that attacks the young, has increased from 15% to 80% over the past fifteen years.
About the Honorees
Alex Hodges has a career spanning over 40 years in the industry, and he has had the rare distinction of serving the live entertainment industry as not only a concert promoter and agent, but as a personal manager and corporate executive as well. In 2011, Hodges was recognized for his contributions to the industry by Venues Today magazine and the University of South Carolina Department of Sport & Entertainment Management with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Harvey Mason, Jr. has penned and produced songs for both industry legends and today's biggest superstars. Everyone from Beyonce to Aretha Franklin, Justin Timberlake to Elton John, Chris Brown to Luther Vandross, Britney Spears to Whitney Houston have all called on Harvey to deliver musically unique but radio friendly hit records.
