T.J. Martell Foundation Partners With Outstanding Honorees to Raise Funds for Research
NEW YORK, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The T.J. Martell Foundation for Leukemia, Cancer and AIDS Research will honor several leaders at its 35th Annual Awards Gala on Wednesday, October 27th, 2010 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square in Manhattan.
"All cancers kill approximately 550,000 Americans every year. That means one person dies every minute. It used to be two people every minute," says Founder and Chairman Tony Martell. "This is an issue that must be addressed more seriously, and this excellent group of honorees is helping us to do so."
This year, the Foundation is proud to present the Humanitarian of the Year Awards to brothers Monte and Avery Lipman, President & CEO of Universal Republic Records and Co-President & COO of Universal Republic Records respectively. The infamous brothers are the driving force behind groundbreaking acts such as Amy Winehouse, Enrique Iglesias, Colbie Caillat, Jack Johnson, India.Arie, Owl City and more. Founded around their kitchen table more than a decade ago, the brothers transformed start-up entity Republic Records into the multi-platinum powerhouse that it is today.
Kenny Loggins, a beloved singer-songwriter and guitarist with a lifelong passion for exploring the endless power of the song to communicate, will receive the Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award.
Charlie Daniels will receive the Lifetime Entertainment Achievement Award and will also perform; known for his fiddle playing, Daniels is a music icon who has been performing for over 50 years.
Harold L. Moses, MD, has been instrumental in the success of Martell-funded research at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, where he is Director Emeritus; he will be honored with the Lifetime Scientific Achievement Award.
