Tired of Political Gridlock? Bipartisan Policy Center Kicks off 100 Day "Citizens for Political Reform" Social Media Campaign
WASHINGTON, March 25, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) prepares to host its Commission on Political Reform (CPR) town hall meeting in Boston tomorrow, it officially kicked off its new Citizens for Political Reform (Citizens) social media campaign.
The campaign is 100 days of outreach and education leading up to the release of the commission's recommendations on June 24. The commission was formed to investigate the causes and consequences of America's partisan political divide and to advocate for concrete reforms that will improve the political process.
Citizens is based on the premise that we get the government that we demand. The initiative provides voters with the tools and information to become politically engaged.
"If citizens don't exercise the power granted to them as citizens, those who seek to divide our country will," said BPC Senior Fellow and former Senator Olympia Snowe, who is spearheading the new campaign. "Together, we can stem the tide of hyper-partisanship and political winning-at-all-costs that undermines lawmakers' ability to address our nation's greatest challenges."
BPC is encouraging Americans across the country to join its Citizens movement by clicking here and following BPC on Twitter and Facebook.
Over the next 100 days, BPC will share ideas and seek input on a variety of congressional and electoral reforms. This input will inform the final deliberations of the Commission on Political Reform and build momentum for a national advocacy campaign.
"Anger at Washington is justified, but it is not a solution. This campaign is about motivating practical reforms to get our government working again," said BPC President Jason Grumet. "Citizens is here to champion and support leaders at the federal, state and local levels with the courage to work across the political aisle and solve real problems."
Over the next few months, BPC will introduce members of the commission, roll out a series of innovative videos, share eye-opening statistics and recent polls, highlight relevant articles and show Citizens where to find information about key issues in their states.
